Your questions, answered

Where should first-time visitors stay in Orlando?

Choose the hotel area after selecting the parks. Our first comparison is the Universal area for Universal-led days, International Drive for a varied attraction plan, and the Disney area or Lake Buena Vista for Disney-led days. Check every property’s actual transfers.

How many days do I need?

Our suggestion is to assign a full day to each major park you prioritize, then allow arrival, departure and a slower day separately. A three-day visit should have a smaller park list than a week; buying more admissions does not create more usable days.

Does Universal Express include park admission?

No. Universal says theme-park admission is required and is not included in an Express Pass. Park-to-Park admission is also a separate ticket feature, including the requirement for riding Hogwarts Express between its two parks. Compare these distinctions before paying.

Do I need a rental car in Orlando?

Choose by the hotel’s actual shuttle schedule, parks and other stops. A car can help with dispersed plans, but include parking and the full rental cost. An advertised shuttle does not establish convenient service to every park or for every opening and closing time.

Choose the park list before the hotel area

Start with a short list of the parks and attractions you want most. A Universal-led itinerary and a Disney-led itinerary can call for different hotel searches. International Drive can be a useful comparison for a varied plan, but it still contains properties with different locations and transport arrangements.

Visit Orlando’s accommodation directory covers theme-park hotels, International Drive and other neighborhoods. Our area recommendations are a way to narrow that list. Compare the actual drive or shuttle to the exact park entrance; a marketing phrase such as near the parks is not a transfer schedule.

Build park days with room around them

Our suggested three-full-day structure is two priority park days and one lighter day for another attraction or rest. For a longer trip, add another park day only if the group wants it. Keep arrival and departure distinct so delayed flights or check-in do not consume an expensive admission.

Reserve time for meals, queues and the return journey. A smaller park list can be a better holiday than a ticket bundle you feel obliged to use. Check each park’s calendar for your date and inspect separate-event rules before planning an evening around standard daytime admission.

Admission, Park-to-Park and Express are different

Universal’s official Express page states that admission is not included. Its ride page also requires Park-to-Park admission to use Hogwarts Express between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Buy the combination your planned day actually needs rather than expecting one upgrade to provide everything.

Read which named parks and dates a ticket covers, especially when comparing Epic Universe or a multi-day product. As checked on 8 October 2026, Universal announces a Volcano Bay seasonal closure beginning 26 October 2026, with reopening planned on or before 24 March 2027. Recheck before adding that water park to a dated trip.

Check shuttles against the full day

Ask the chosen hotel for the current shuttle destinations, reservation procedure, departure times and last return. Confirm the pickup location at the park and what you will do if you finish later. A free advertised service is only useful when it fits the day you intend to spend there.

If renting at Orlando International Airport, the car link below opens MCO options. Compare pickup instructions, cover, deposit and the return with your flight time. Add hotel and park parking to the total; a low daily rental rate does not describe the complete transport cost.

Compare the actual room and hotel benefits

The accommodation link starts around International Drive. Change the search area for a Disney- or Universal-focused stay, then inspect the exact property address. Compare room capacity, breakfast, resort fees where applicable and cancellation rules before choosing a low headline rate.

Benefits such as early admission or an included queue product need written confirmation for the selected property and dates. Do not transfer a benefit from a neighboring hotel or a generic resort name. The guide’s recommendations are based on route planning, not personal stays or property ratings.

Frequently asked questions

Is downtown Orlando the same as the theme-park area?

No. A downtown or Lake Eola visit is a separate city outing. The hero illustration shows the downtown setting; it does not depict a park or a park hotel.

Does a hotel automatically include early park admission?

No. Verify the property, dates, eligible parks and ticket requirements in writing. Different hotels and products have different benefits.

Can I add Miami to the same trip?

Yes as a separate Florida travel stage with its own transfer time. It is not a short local park excursion; plan its nights and transport independently.
