How we work
Editorial policy
We write guides to help you plan a trip. We explain what we know, what may change and what you need to check. This page sets out how we work on our Madeira guides.
Sources and fact checks
We check facts with official travel sites, transport services, trail managers and hotels where we can. Each guide lists its sources and review date. That date tells you when we checked the facts. It does not mean that prices, opening times or hotel services will stay the same.
Recommendations and trade-offs
We compare where a place is, how to reach it and who it may suit. We also point out the drawbacks. A quiet hotel by the coast may not be a good base if you want to travel without a car. There is no single best choice for every trip.
What we do not claim
Our guides are based on research. They are not accounts of trips or hotel stays we claim to have made. We do not invent stays, guest scores or live prices. A general travel image does not show what a named hotel room or its view looks like.
Changing conditions
Check trail access, weather, prices and travel times when you plan. Check them again before you go if they could affect your day. Confirm where a tour starts and how to get there. Our walking diagrams show the broad layout, not a route to follow on a trail. Our trip plans leave room for changes.
Booking decisions
The booking provider sets the price, available dates and terms. Before paying, check the hotel or tour name, your dates and what is included. Read the rules for refunds and changes. Ask the provider about any access or other needs. We do not take bookings or change them for you.
