A CBD hotel can be a flexible compromise when your route changes from day to day. Darling Harbour is worth comparing when several activities are there. Day 1: Circular Quay and the harbour
Start our suggested first day around Circular Quay, then choose time near the Opera House and the waterfront. Avoid treating a harbour walk, a ticketed Opera House experience and a cruise as interchangeable. If one is a priority, make its reservation the anchor and arrange the open time around it.

Day 2: city centre and Darling Harbour
Group the CBD and Darling Harbour on the second day rather than repeatedly crossing the city for one attraction at a time. Our suggestion is a city-centre morning, a meal break and your chosen Darling Harbour activity later. Leave time simply to explore the precinct instead of buying entry to every indoor attraction.
The tourism board lists light-rail and ferry approaches to Darling Harbour as well as walking connections. Check the current service for your actual hotel and finish point. A ferry journey can be part of the day, but its route and timetable are not the same as a booked sightseeing cruise.
Day 3: a longer outing or a slower city day
Choose one longer excursion if the first two days leave you wanting a different landscape. A Blue Mountains visit is a regional day with its own travel and activity time; it should replace another full sightseeing day rather than be inserted between central-city museum bookings.
If you prefer more Sydney time, keep the third day for an area or attraction you omitted. That also gives the plan room to respond to weather. Inspect any day-tour meeting point and return time before making a fixed dinner reservation; optional activities should be named in the inclusions, not inferred from the photograph.

Book a stay that supports the evenings as well
Compare where you will eat and how you will return after the last activity, not only the morning attraction. A cheaper room can still be good value, but include the transport it requires and the check-in arrangements. Ask about luggage storage if arrival or departure leaves a gap outside the room’s hours.

Only if the exact listing says so. Seeing the building from the water and entering a ticketed tour or performance are separate experiences.
Should I add the Blue Mountains to a short visit?
Choose it if a regional outing matters more to you than another city day. Allow the full tour schedule and compare pickup and inclusions before booking.
Can I combine Sydney and New Zealand in one holiday?
Yes as separate travel stages. Include the flight and a new transport plan; New Zealand activities are not local Sydney day trips.
