Choose a taxi boat or an organized snorkeling trip

Koh Nang Yuan consists of small islands joined by sandbars just off Koh Tao. Thailand's tourism authority identifies the sandbar setting, snorkeling and viewpoint as its main draws. The travel choice is straightforward: arrange a boat for an independent visit, or join an excursion that combines the island with other snorkeling stops.

A taxi boat suits a visit centered on the beach and viewpoint. A guided outing may suit travelers who want equipment, help in the water and a planned route. Read the actual itinerary before comparing prices: a trip advertised around Koh Tao may not land on Koh Nang Yuan, and a landing does not establish how much time is available there.

Koh Nang Yuan entrance fee and day-visitor hours

Use the island operator's current visitor page for access rules. Checked on 8 October 2026, it lists a 250 THB entrance charge per person and a 10am–3pm day-visitor window. Older travel pages quote different entrance prices, so they should not set your budget. An excursion's headline price also does not prove that admission is included. Ask the operator about child rates when booking for a family.

Work backward from the return time. Ask where the boat will collect you, what happens if weather changes and whether you need a separate payment at arrival. Staying at the island resort is a different arrangement: the operator says its guests have admission included and may use the island outside the day-visitor hours.

Plan snorkeling around conditions and island rules

Choose a snorkeling trip by its supervision and route as well as its photographs. Ask about flotation equipment, beginner support, children, the boat's boarding arrangements and the plan if the sea is unsuitable. For an independent visit, do not assume that transport includes equipment or someone supervising your swim.

The island operator prohibits snorkeling fins, single-use plastic bottles and drones. Its rules also prohibit smoking on the beach and loud music. Do not stand on coral or use it as a handhold. Bring what the operator permits, follow the marked access and keep the outing centered on observing the marine environment rather than touching it.

Make time for the Koh Nang Yuan viewpoint

The viewpoint is the land-based reason to visit even if you are not snorkeling. Its appeal is the view across the joined islands and sandbars. Put the climb into your available island time before committing to a long swim; changing clothes, walking and waiting for a clear place to stand also take time.

Ask the operator about the current path and access if stairs, uneven ground or heat are concerns. The aerial-style view in a promotional image does not demonstrate an accessible route or the conditions on your visit day. Wear footwear suited to the approach, keep hands free where needed and turn back if the route does not suit your group.

Where to stay for a Koh Nang Yuan day trip

Koh Tao is the practical accommodation search for the boat departures listed by the island operator. Compare Mae Haad and Sairee by the actual departure you choose rather than by a generic island-wide hotel ranking. Check the route from your property, luggage arrangements and whether a tour includes hotel pickup.

Separate the journey to Koh Tao from the excursion itself where possible. Our recommendation is to avoid tying an island visit to a tightly timed onward ferry on the same afternoon. For an overnight stay on Koh Nang Yuan itself, use the resort's own availability and guest-access terms; a Koh Tao hotel does not provide the same island access.
